Independence Man Charged with Raping 8-Year-Old Girl
An Independence man, who is a registered sex offender, has been charged with raping and sodomizing an 8-year-old girl at a sleepover so badly that the victim had to be taken into surgery for her injuries.
Randy W. Lande, 45, of Independence, was charged Friday with one count of forcible rape, five counts of forcible sodomy, and one count of felony kidnapping.
According to police, they responded to a report of a sexual assault at a home in Independence on Thursday morning. When police arrived, they found the young girl covered in blood on a mattress in a bedroom, hyperventilating and having convulsions.
Police said the victim and two other girls had spent the night at the home after a birthday party. The probable cause said the girl told police that “Randy” was the one who hurt her.
Police said in the probable cause that Randy Lande was the boyfriend of the mother of one of the girls at the sleepover and was of no relation to the victim. Lande’s girlfriend told FOX 4 that her daughter-in-law woke to screams, found the victim and called 911. That’s when Lande took the sheets off the bed and left the home with a 20-pack of beer.
Police tracked down Lande in his vehicle and arrested him. The probable cause states that Lande had been drinking at the time, and police found blankets in the back seat of his car.
According to the probable cause statement, the child was taken to a hospital where she had to undergo surgery to treat her injuries. The victim told police that Lande had a knife at the time of the attack and threatened to kill her.
“I hate him and that’s just sick to do to a little child, that’s just sick to do and it’s just nasty,” a family friend told FOX 4.
Lande is a registered sex offender after a 2009 conviction for sodomy. The probable cause statement states that Lande admitted to police that he “fondled” the victim and admitted to sexually assaulting her.
A relative of Lande’s told FOX 4 that they’ve lost hope for him and are now just hoping the little girl will be ok.
“I just hope and pray that little girl turns out ok,” the relative said. “And that she is not too mentally damaged by whatever happened. All I can do is pray for her and her family.”
