Animal Cruelty Claims Cause Egg Shortage Thanksgiving Week
Businesses are taking a stand this week, cutting ties with an egg producer accused of mistreating its hens and chicks. Even though Thanksgiving is just a few days away, Target and other businesses aren’t stocking their shelves with the eggs.
And that’s causing an egg shortage.
According to the Associated Press, an undercover video shot by animal rights activists at Sparboe Farms in three states revealed mistreatment to the birds that some describe as sickening.
McDonald’s Corp. and Cargill Inc. were the first major customers to cut ties with Sparboe Farms. Target quickly followed.
A Target spokeswoman said they’re uncertain when they will be able to restock its shelves.
