INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Each year Community Services League provides Christmas gifts, a meal and even decorations to underprivileged families.

This year the organization will help more people during its Christmas drive than it ever has before – about 1,500 families, which comes out to around 6,000 people.

“Mom and dad or mom or dad, whatever the situation may be, they get to come in and pick out based on the child’s age, their sex – they get to pick out presents, gift wrap – everything you need for a positive Christmas.” said Michael Levine, the executive director of CSL.

While Levine, staff and volunteers will get a short breather, they will almost immediately start working on getting items for next year’s holiday store, in addition to meeting the daily needs of clients.

“We are closed on Christmas, we open up the following day and we’ll go back to being an emergency food pantry, clothing closet, helping out with employment and the process continues for a lot of those who are less fortunate around the county,” said Levine.

HEI Consulting has issued a challenge for the Christmas Store.  They will match dollar for dollar all monetary donations to the Christmas Store between now and December 20th in $50 increments up to $5,000.

You can help CSL reach this goal by donating here or sending your check to: CSL, 404 North Noland Road, Independence, MO 64050, Attn: Christmas Challenge.
