TONGANOXIE, Kan. — A Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper suffered injuries Thursday morning in a car accident on 24 Hwy. near 182nd Street east of Tonganoxie, Kan.

Authorities said the trooper was headed to a call with his lights and sirens activated. Authorities said the accident happened after another motorist on the highway wouldn’t yield and the trooper moved into the other lane to get their attention. That’s when the trooper’s wheel dropped off the pavement. The officer then attempted to correct his vehicle, but lost control.

The officer’s car overturned and hit a rise before coming to rest. The officer was life-flighted to KU Medical Center where he is said to be in serious but stable condition.

He was wearing his seat belt, which is being credited with saving his life.
