KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police arrested a 26-year-old man after he reportedly brought a loaded gun to Kansas City International Airport Wednesday morning. Airport officials found the handgun when checking his carry-on luggage.
Prosecutors charged Anthony Winn of Kansas City, Mo., with two counts: being in possession of a firearm and having the concealed handgun in his carry-on luggage when he attempted to board a plane.
According to a statement released by US Attorney General Beth Phillips, Winn had a loaded Glock 9mm handgun with 22 live rounds of ammunition at the time he went to board the plane. Phillips continued on to say that one of there was also a live round in the chamber.
Winn also had more than $4,900 dollars in his pants pockets. After police searched the rest of his belongings, they found three pairs of jeans with more than $26,000 inside. Police also reported that Winn had boarding passes in his bag to travel one-way from Kansas City to Minnesota, and then to Arizona. Winn told security the handgun belongs to his brother and that he planned to return it when he arrived in Arizona, his final destination.
Winn does have prior convictions of burglary and unlawful use of a firearm. If convicted on the new charges, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
