A New Feature in KC’s Future?
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Thursday evening, the Kansas City city council approved a measure that would create a special downtown tax district to bring street cars to the downtown area.
Voters in that proposed district, which only amount to a few thousand people, will be asked to approve an increase in taxes to fund the street car plan and if the measure passes Kansas City will qualify for federal funds.
The federal money is considered essential to building the $100 million streetcar system which would extend from the River Market to Crown Center. The city hopes to have it operational by 2015.
