Metro Man Accused of Beating Girlfriend with a Hammer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A metro man is in custody and charged with domestic violence after he allegedly beat his girlfriend with a hammer.
Kent M. Sturgis, 25, was charged with felony domestic assault, armed criminal action and kidnapping facilitating the commission of a felony in connection to the attack last Thursday on a 31-year-old victim in unincorporated Jackson County near 24 Highway and Missouri 291.
According to prosecutors, the victim first told investigators that she had been the victim of a carjacking, but later admitted that her boyfriend had beat her with a hammer after they dropped their children off at an Independence day care. She then pleaded with him to let her go, and together they made up the story about a carjacking then called 9-1-1.
Sturgis is in custody in the Jackson County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash-only bond.
