CENTERVIEW, Mo. — The metro squad is investigating a murder in the small town of Centerview, Mo. A  41-year-old man was shot to death in his bed.

Walter Hayes Feldman was found dead in his home on Wednesday morning. He was found in his bed with a gunshot wound to his head. Police say the father of two was home alone at the time. Family, friends and neighbors say the lifelong resident and home builder was a nice guy who lived his children as well as the outdoors.

The people closes to Feldman were too shaken to talk on camera to FOX 4, but his family says they don’t know anyone who would want to hurt him.

“Nobody that comes here can believe something like this happened here, especially to him because you never would imagine him,” said family friend Pat McCormick

“There’s a lot of preliminary work to do and talking to his circle of friends, what his schedules were, what his habits were,” said Sheriff Chuck Heiss.

Sheriff Heiss is getting help from the rural Missouri major case squad. More than two dozen investigators have followed up on more than 60 leads. Neighbors and friends of Feldman say it’s scary to be in their homes knowing a killer is on the loose.
