KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Brookside home is about to get a makeover and it’s all a fundraiser for the Kansas City Symphony.

The symphony’s “Showhouse” is just a block from Loose Park on 53rd street. The inside of the house has been stripped down to the bare bones and designers bid for the opportunity to design a room.

Students from more than a dozen area high schools are also using this as an opportunity to learn about design and even draw up their own designs. Shawnee Mission West students toured the house on Thursday.

“They come back after the house is designed and see how their boards compare to what the designers actually did,” says Diane McDermott with the KC Symphony Association. She says this kind of hands of learning is valuable for the kids, as they’ll also get to post their designs on the Showhouse Facebook page.

The Showhouse is expected to be done and ready for public tours in April. Ticket sales benefit the KC Symphony and Youth Symphony. Click here for more information.
