Chiefs Sign CB Stanford Routt
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs signed former Oakland Raiders cornerback Stanford Routt to a three-year $20 million deal on Monday.
The 28-year old CB is entering his eighth season in the NFL. Routt has played his entire career in Oakland, and started 30 games for the Raiders over the past two seasons. In 2011, he recorded 49 tackles and four interceptions. He also led the NFL in penalties with 17.
Oakland released Routt two weeks ago, making it possible for a team to sign him before free agency begins on March 13th.
Chiefs CB Brandon Carr will be a free agent unless he re-signs with the team before free agency starts March 13th. Kansas City could also use their franchise tag on Carr, which would keep him in Chiefs red for one more season. The 25-year old Carr has been a four-year starter in Kansas City, and is widely considered to be one of the top potential free agents in this year’s class.
