Kids Learn Important Lessons Through Basketball
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Inner city kids are going back to basics thanks to the All Star Weekend Jam. The clinic teaches kids the fundamentals of basketball.
“We bring the fundamentals and player development back to the kids in the interscholastic league so we can bring the quality of basketball back up,” said Larry Collins with Shooter’s Touch Academy.
The kids who attended Saturday’s event were paying close attention. One of the things they touched on was muscle memory.
“Muscle memory is just doing the same thing over and over again so once you get in the game you already know what to do,” said Mylan Collins.
That’s exactly how the kids performed drills on Saturday. They did the same movements over and over. Shooter’s Touch Academy trains kids all across the metro in the game of basketball. The goal of the clinic was to bring the same lessons and same opportunities to kids at an affordable price
“We want to put some fire back we don’t want to lose these kids,” Collins said. “Somebody’s got to be here for them. They’re not going anywhere.”
