Kansas Soldiers Return from Afghanistan
NEW CENTURY, Kan. — Troops and their families were reunited Thursday after a year-long tour in Afghanistan.
Approximately 100 soldiers returned to Kansas, arriving at New Century Airport to a crowd of eager onlookers. But not everyone was met with a returning troop.
Three servicemen from the returning troops were killed last August when their Chinook helicopter crash was shot down, killing a total of 38 Americans. It is the greatest loss of life in the Afghan war to date. Of those killed were Specialist Spencer Duncan, CW2 Brian Nichols and Sgt. Alex Bennett — all of whom have family in Kansas.
FOX 4 was at the airport during the arrival of the soldiers. Watch the video to see their emotional return.
