Bear Saves Man From Mountain Lion Attack
BUTTE COUNTY, Cal. — A man in California is certain a bear saved his life, although whether the bear did it purposefully or not is a question that’s not exactly answerable.
Bob Biggs was hiking along a California river when he saw a bear with her cub. He says he watched the two for a moment and then left, but that’s when something jumped on his back and knocked him down.
It was a mountain lion.
“I got hit from behind and knocked me to my knees,” Biggs said. “This mountain lion grabs me from the left side of the rear and climbs up on my back and just starts shaking.”
Just as suddenly, the Mama bear was there, grabbing the neck of the mountain lion and tearing it down to the ground.
There was a scuffle, and then Biggs says the mountain lion, Mama bear and cub all walked away.
Biggs, 69, suffered a few scratches but says it will not prevent him from exploring trails in his area.
“It’s just another day in the woods,” he said.
