Northbound 69 Hwy. Closed North of Liberty for Bridge Replacement
LIBERTY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Transportation will close the northbound lanes of Route 69 between East Heartland Drive and Chandler Road to accommodate replacement of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad just north of Liberty as part of the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program.

Beginning on Friday, northbound traffic will be redirected to one lane to bypass the road closure. Motorists will be placed into a head-to-head traffic configuration on the southbound side of Route 69. Northbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane at the signal on East Heartland Drive. Northbound traffic will cross back into northbound lanes at the newly constructed bypass near Chandler Road.
During this time, traffic using East Heartland Drive will have limited access. Vehicles traveling north on Route 69 will be allowed to enter East Heartland Drive to reach the industrial park; however, southbound Route 69 traffic will need to find an alternate entrance. All traffic exiting the industrial park using East Heartland will have full access to both north and southbound Route 69, but may experience long delays to gain access onto the highway. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
MoDOT typically closes the road during bridge replacement, but officials say that they recognized the importance of minimizing the impact to the more than 15,000 motorists driving through the area daily. Crews have used the existing intersection at East Heartland Drive and constructed a temporary crossover south of Chandler Road to allow north and southbound Route 69 traffic to bypass each bridge closure. A head-to-head traffic configuration will limit access to Route 69 for traffic using the East Heartland Drive and Chandler Road intersections.
During the bridge work, the speed limit will be lowered to allow traffic to move safely through the area. This will impact traffic especially during peak travel times. Motorists driving through the area are encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible to minimize delay.
Once the northbound Route 69 Bridge is finished, crews will begin work on the southbound Route 69 Bridge. All work will be finished by July 26, reopening all lanes of Route 69.
