ATLANTA, Ga. -- Atlanta Police are honoring a 10-year-old girl who saved her grandmother's life. The girl called 911 and stayed calm under pressure.
Marcella Hughley's grandmother passed out when her blood sugar levels were low. The girl reacted quickly by calling 911. A 911 operator talked to Hughley to get a grasp of how serious the situation was.
The girl never panicked. She gave good responses to the questions that the operator asked and provided a lot of information.
"When the EMS operator told her what to do to help her grandmother, she did everything very well," said Teneria Gilstrap, Atlanta 911 dispatcher.
Her dad says he's proud of his daughter's actions.
"She saved my mom's life," said Demarco Hughley. "She took responsibility over the whole situation."
The 911 operator says Hughley is the perfect example of how someone should handle an urgent medical situation.
