Financial Infidelity: Do You Lie to Your Spouse about Money?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Do you lie to your spouse about money? If you do, you’re not alone. A new survey shows couples lie about money all the time.

According to a survey by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, 7 percent admit to keeping work bonuses and/or lottery winnings a secret from their spouse. Four percent say they have a secret savings or retirement account. Another four percent say they’ve withdrawn a significant amount of money from a joint account without telling the other person.

The survey says three in 10 adults who are married or living with a partner admit to some form of financial infidelity. The American Institute of CPA’s says money issues are the most common cause of fights between couples. It says they add up to on average three arguments each month.
