MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- A group of teens is laughing about something that happened unexpectedly while they were taking prom pictures. The Wisconsin high school students spent weeks getting ready for the prom.
They ended up soaking wet only minutes into their picture taking. The teens went to take a group photo before Saturday's prom. They all crowded onto a wooden pier for the picture. But, their smiles turned into gasps and worried expressions as they tried to figure out what was happening.
On the left side of the picture you can see Ryan Skrove. He is now considered a hero by his girlfriend for his quick reaction to the pier giving way.
"I just grabbed her and then managed to keep my feet on the beams without falling through," Skrove said.
The group was pulled from the water and quickly tried to regroup. They used a lot of hairdryers and fans to dry out. Their parents threw tuxedos and prom dresses in driers to help them dry out quickly.
They were running so many hair dryers they actually blew a breaker in the house. But with some borrowed shirts for the guys and some touch-up on the makeup for the girls, the group finally made it to the prom.
The group says they can laugh about it now and they have a lifelong memory to share for years to come.
No one was hurt during the collapse.
