KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Mother's Day got off to a toasty start for a church in Kansas City, Kansas. Parishioners at Emmanuel Temple Church of God and Christ were read for a heartwarming Mother's Day sermon but they didn't know they would be sweating before it was over.
Pastor Jerry Houston says someone stole the church's two air conditioning units. The pastor said he got a call from a neighbor who noticed the damage early Saturday morning.
"We will probably have to get a loan to get them replaced or try to get our parishioners to help us out as much as possible," said Pastor Houston.
Houston says it will cost between $10 and $15,000 to replace the units. He says that's a price his small congregation of 50 cannot afford. Pastor Houston says this is the second time the church's air conditioning units were stolen. He fears his insurance company may decide to cancel the church policy if he files another claim.
He says it saddens him to know someone is willing to make a few bucks by causing thousands of dollars damage to the church.
