KANSAS CITY, Mo. - One of the city's two skate park unveils a new look Tuesday, with big help from a professional skater. More than 100 skaters took a ride on the new and improved course at Penn Valley Skate Park, in the presence of pro skater Rob Dyrdek.

The city's parks and recreation department, along with Dyrdek, cut the ribbon at the park around 4 p.m. The city says it has added about 7,000 square feet.

But it says it could not have made these improvements without Dyrdek, who donated $75,000 towards it.  Dyrdek says he realized KC's potential in the skateboarding scene while in town last year.

" Last year we had through the big Street League contest here and we donated all the obstacles and you can see from last year's contest. So really the kids get an opportunity to skate on the same stuff that they watch the best pro's in the world skate on," he said.

The city says it will be adding lights to this park in the coming months.
Skaters FOX 4 talked with said that will help deter crime, but definitely bring in more skaters.

If you want to check Dyrdek and some other pro skaters, like KC's very own Sean Malto out, they'll be skating in the Street League competition at the Sprint center this weekend.
