Update: Teen Trio Nabbed in School Roof-top Burglary
LENEXA, Kan. — Three teens are in juvenile custody after allegedly breaking into St. James Academy in Lenexa, Kan., on Tuesday morning.
Police said two were spotted by officers around 8:35 a.m. The third suspect was caught hiding in a wooded area around 11 a.m.
Police said trio broke into St. James Academy through the library ceiling and were attempting to steal electronics when the school’s wrestling coach interrupted them. The suspects, believed to be 14 to 17 years of age, took off running, leaving behind a bag full of electronics.
Outside, the trio split up — two ran into the woods across the street from the school. Another suspect ran into the woods closer to the school. Police K9s searched the area for a time but were unable to locate the suspects. Police said while the dogs were called off, officers continued to search the area.
After apprehending the boys, police said they were not students at the school.
This is the third roof-top burglary at St. James Academy in recent months. The school is located at Prairie Star Parkway and Clare Road in western Lenexa.
