Good Samaritan Returns $13K Found on Trash Can
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee man is being hailed as a hero after returning thousands of dollars he found on top of a trash can. Kenneth Allen says he stopped at a convenience store to get something to drink on his way home.
“I went up there and checked the bag and found a lot of money in there,” Allen said.
He found a bag on top of a trash can. Inside the bag was almost $13,000 and a wallet. Allen found the owner’s identity inside the wallet and tried to track him down. As it turns out, the man was in the hospital.
Surveillance video shows the man walking out of the store. The man is seen unwrapping an ice cream sandwich and seems to forget about the money and walks away.
“People walked by for 47 minutes and no one noticed it,” he said. “No one even seemed to see it there.”
Allen took the money to the Clarksville Police. Officers returned the money to the man in the video. Police say the man had been hospitalized after suffering from a medication reaction.
He says there was something else in the bag which he got a kick out of.
“The part we thought was really funny, not that there was a wallet in there, there was a bottle of cologne in it,” he said.
The Good Samaritan says he never thought about keeping the money. He hasn’t met the man who he helped but he hopes they can meet up in the near future.
