WELLINGTON, Mo. — A deadly shooting of a 60-year-old man in his home has left residents in the small Missouri town of Wellington stunned and looking for answers, as police investigate the town’s first homicide in decades.

According to Wellington Police, the man was found shot to death in his home in the 700 block of Missouri 131, directly across from the town’s school, shortly after noon on Wednesday.

Wellington is approximately 40 minutes east of Kansas City in Lafayette County.

Sheriff’s deputies haven’t released the name of the victim, or the 38 year-old woman who was arrested for the shooting. However, FOX 4 was told by neighbors that the victim lived at home with his wife and adult daughter.

Neighbor Connie Becraft says she lived next door to the victim for about five years, and that his two kids played with her kids.

“This is shocking,” said Becraft, who says that she didn’t talk to the victim or his family too often. “They were to themselves.”

Another neighbor, Jimmy Leach, says that he used to see the victim outside fairly often.

“You know one minute everything is good, you’re talking, mowing the yard together, and you come home and now he’s not here,” said Leach. He says that he was upset to hear about the shooting.

“It’s just a shock, and it’s a shame,” said Leach. “They were good, decent people.”
