KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Chicago Fire dodged Sporting Kansas City’s forward heavy game plan and escaped Livestrong Sporting Park with a 1-0 win on Friday night.
Sporting owned a total shot advantage of 27-10, but could never crack the seal of Chicago’s air-tight defense.
Chicago Fire midfielder Marco Pappa scored early in the first half, which was enough to hand Sporting its second straight loss, both shutouts. Sporting KC is now 9-5-2.
With the win, the Fire improved to 8-5-3 and pulled within two points of Sporting KC. Chicago currently holds third place in the Eastern Conference.
Sporting’s next match will a be a July 4th road test against the Montreal Impact.
