KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating after a woman was shot near her home at 39th and Forest on Wednesday night.

According to police, 63-year-old Janice Cann was walking to her car to leave for her job at an area casino when she was shot in the abdomen by an unknown assailant around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday night. She was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

She has since been upgraded to good condition, family members told FOX 4.

Witnesses told police that a man in his 20′s walked to the corner near Cann’s car and began firing before fleeing the scene in a car.
