Man Sentenced in Fatal Northland DUI Crash
PLATTE CITY, Mo. — A Northland man pleaded guilty on Thursday to causing a drunk driving crash that took the life of a Platte County teen.
Steven Jimenez pleaded guilty in connection to the January 2011 crash that killed 18-year-old Alex Huber. According to prosecutors, Jimenez missed a turn with his vehicle near the 7800 block of North Mace in Platte County, hit several trees and rolled over, killing Huber, who was his passenger.
Court records show that Jimenez had a blood-alcohol level of .137, as well as traces of marijuana in his system.
Huber’s father, Ted Huber, was in the courtroom on Thursday. He says that he talked to Jimenez for the first time after his court appearance.
“He was very sorry, it looked ike there were tears from his eyes,” said Huber. “He was just really scared, he didn’t have alot to say. He did apologize.”
Huber says that he has mixed emotions – he lost his son, but he doesn’t want to see another family lose theirs.
“I do feel like he should probaby get an opportunity under the circumstances,” said Huber. “It could have happened either way, either one of them could have been driving.”
Jimenez is set to be sentenced on August 30th. He faces a maximum of seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
