KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Transportation will shut down a stretch of 169 Highway beginning midnight on Friday, July 13.

All lanes between the Wheeler Airport and 169 Highway will close to make way for a major construction project that’s expected to last five months. MoDOT will replace a corroded wall, fix guard railing and repair drainage issues.

“What we need is for people to be aware of where they’re starting and where they’re going and using an alternate route or try and find a way around this, especially the first week,” said Brian Kidwell with MoDOT. “Once things kind of spread out and folks find their own best path we will be okay.

Approximately 35,000 people use this stretch of 169 Highway every day. An alternate route to Wheeler Airport include the Broadway Bridge. The two easiest alternate routes for 169 Highway include the Heart of America and Bond bridges.
