SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN
RUSS:
Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt star in “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen,” an adaptation of the popular novel.
SHAWN:
It’s a well made but overly cute romantic movie that hinges itself on a quirky premise that never quite connects.

RUSS:
McGregor is a fishing expert called upon by a Yemeni sheik to introduce fly-fishing to the desert. Blunt is an assistant to the sheik McGregor falls for. The cast is very appealing and this romantic comedy has its modest charms. But the magic that apparently fueled the book is as scarce as fish in the desert.
SHAWN:
The biggest problem is lack of chemistry between the two leads. You never really feel a sense that these two are really digging each other. And that’s a problem because this is suppose to be a love story. The extras are equally low rent. Only two featurretes.

THE THREE STOOGES
RUSS:
The famed slapstick trio “The Three Stooges” get a reboot, filtered through the sensibilities of the Farrelly Brothers, the guys behind “There’s Something About Mary” and “Dumb and Dumber.
”SHAWN
This is old fashioned dumb fun. Although it’s a reboot it feels more like an homage to the comedic trio. Props to the actors.

RUSS:
The actors do a commendable job of resurrecting the patented violent anarchy that the original threesome achieved. If you go in with low expectations and an appreciation for goofy humor, then “The Three Stooges” is good for some shameless laughs.

The extras are pretty standard stuff except on the Blu-Ray you get the fantastic featurette

LOCKOUT
RUSS:
“Lockout” wants desperately to be “Die Hard in Space.” Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace star in this silly futuristic sci-fi flick about a government agent sent to save the daughter of the president who’s in the middle of a breakout on an orbiting space prison.

This movie is so formulaic and predictable you don’t even have to watch to know what’s going to happen and how it’s going to end. Just wish it were more entertaining.

The only extra material on the DVD release will be two boring behind the scenes featurettes. The Blu-ray release will also include an UltraViolet digital copy of the movie. Next…
