Search On for Possible Drowning Victim at Smithville Lake

SMITHVILLE, Mo. — Authorities are searching for a man who may have drowned while fishing at Smithville Lake on Friday.

According to authorities, a boat belonging to 70-year-old Gordon Carr  of Kansas City, Missouri, was found empty and adrift on the lake near the Route W boat dock on Friday afternoon.

Carr’s family says that he went fishing on the lake early this morning. Troopers with the Missouri Highway Patrol searched the area of the lake where he usually fished for several hours with sonar equipment, but was unable to locate the man.

Authorities say that Carr’s vehicle was found in the parking lot where he left it.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says that troopers will return to the lake early Saturday morning to continue the search for Carr.
