Woman Abandons Baby After Shoplifting Incident
NEAR ORLANDO, Fla. — A Florida mom is behind bars after attempting to steal some clothes from Walmart. Even worse, the when the store’s staff approached the woman she bolted leaving behind a one-year-old baby in a shopping cart.
Police say two sisters, 19-year-old Allison Niemeyer and her sister Laura tried to take $57 worth of clothes. Security caught on to what they were doing and confronted the two right outside the exit.
Detectives say Allison was the first to leave the baby behind.
“Once they were approached, you can see on the video clearly that the one girl, the actual caretaker of the child, takes off running,” said Sgt. Chas Maier with Ocala, Florida Police.
The woman ran across the lot with her sister, the baby’s aunt who also left the baby.
“When the loss prevention officer asked her, ‘Are you going to come get your child?’ she said, ‘It’s not my child. It’s not my child.’ And she continued to leave, and then they both abandoned the baby,” Sgt. Maier said.
Officers located the women the following night at a dance club and placed them under arrest. Police say Allison Niemeyer was serving 10 years of house arrest as part of a probation sentence for her role in another crime.
“She committed a home invasion, which is a robbery, a very serious case, and was pregnant, actually, at the time of that home invasion,” he said.
The sisters are in the Marion County jail. The one-year-old is now in the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
