MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Cell phone users are accidentally calling 911 in Milwaukee at an alarming rate. Now, the 911 staff is becoming frustrated because of the high volume of calls they’re experiencing and people don’t realize their phones are making the calls.

It uses up the department’s resources and can cause a delayed response to someone who actually has an emergency. The dispatchers are on pace to receive 105,000 accidental calls in 2012 alone. So far, one caller has made 136 pocket dials to Milwaukee 911.
