A Surprise Rain!
I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the weather yesterday, aside from the fact that it was rather nice out there. I glanced more into the late week cool down as opposed to what was going to happen the following day since I was off. So look at what we have here…a nice area of rain heading this way. Here is a look at radar from about 7:50 this morning showing a broad solid area of rain moving through eastern KS.
Here is a view from the MO side of rain coming in.
The rain is moving towards the E and maybe at times towards the ESE and should make it onto the MO side before it weakens. There is a whole little disturbance associated with this and it covers a large amount of territory on the latest satellite images.
So we’ll be dealing with a cool start, the potential that temperatures are only around 60-65° with the rainfall in the region and a lot of clouds in the PM as well. Basically highs today may only be in the 75° range and that won’t happen till later this afternoon. This is the type of rainfall that will soak into the ground. There is little to no thunder with all that rain which is rather unusual as well.
So basically enjoy it, it’s certainly been a long time coming. The negative to this is that the amounts will not be much, again under 1/4″ and for some under 1/10″ and N MO will miss out on most of this.
There is another opportunity of rainfall later WED night into Thursday AM as a strong for mid August cold front moves this way. This front will barrel through the region and allow highs to tumble into the 70s potentially later in the week! Here is a look at temperatures @ about 5K feet for Friday…that 10°C line represents temperatures at that level of around 50°F. Pretty cool air for this time of the year.
Ahead of this front we should heat up to 95-100° tomorrow as a surge of heat moves across the Plains states ahead of the front.
Storms should light up with the front later Wednesday and then move this way Wed Night into Thursday AM, some storms with locally heavy rainfall. Remember we’ll be dealing with convection so while some may get a good shot of rain, some/many will not get that much, but the potential is there for 1″+ of rain for some, especially up across N MO.
Have a great day and thanks for reading the FOX 4 Weather Blog!
