Police Search for Clues in Woman’s Death
KEARNEY, Mo. — A death investigation is underway in Kearney, Mo. Kearney police, along with the investigative squad from Clay County, are calling a woman’s death suspicious.
The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Nicoleon Reed. Reed is from Kansas City. Reed was killed on Aug. 22, 2012. On Wednesday, August 29, detectives from Kearney interviewed people along Kansas City’s Independence Avenue who may have known Reed.
Her associates say she was known on the street as Nikki. People who talked to FOX 4 said she lived a dangerous lifestyle. She battled drug and alcohol abuse, but when she was sober, those who knew her say she was a good person.
Kearney police say Reed’s death is suspicious. Reed was last seen near Independence Ave. & Denver. Reed talked about taking a bus to St. Louis to enroll in a drug program. They say that never happened. Instead, many who knew her said she’d been on the streets working as a prostitute.
“I don’t know if she was good but, I don’t know what she did in the past, it wasn’t right. but I feel sorry she’s dead,” said Anita Lee.
A memorial service will be held for Reed on Thursday night at Life Church in Kansas City. Her family is from Alma, Kan., and has plans for a private burial there.
