LENEXA, Kan. — A young woman who now calls Lenexa home is one of two finalists for a reality TV singing show on BET called “Sunday Best”  – the American Idol for gospel singers.

This Sunday. Alexis Spight will find out if she’s the winner of a national recording contract and a dream come true.

Spight says it’s still a little strange for her to watch herself on TV.

“I know I’m watching myself on tv but it’s crazy to think the whole world can see me also,” she says, “sometimes it’s surreal going into Walmart and strangers saying ‘oh my god i know you!’”

With her signature look, that bright red hair, she does stand out in a crowd, but even more than her hair color her voice sets her apart.

“Now I’m in the final two and it’s a surreal experience,” she says.

But all of this almost didn’t happen. When Alexis arrived at the St Louis audition, she was overwhelmed.

“When I got there I was discouraged because there were two or three thousand people ahead of me in line,” she says.

Even during the competition, there were times she felt low.

“There were times I would call my mom and dad and say ‘I can’t do this, I don’t know what’s going to happen, everybody’s so talented,’” she says.

But she’s talented too, has been for a long time. Since her dad’s a preacher, she grew up singing in her church choir in Buffalo, New York, and even toured New York State with her sisters: the Spight Sisters.

Her family has been there for her every step of the way. But thanks to the show she has even more support now, including thousands of fans.

“All the love and support that everyone is showing me keeps me going,” Spight says, “keeps the fire going inside.”

Sunday, we’ll find out if the girl with fire inside and the fiery red hair will be named “Sunday Best.”

The voting for goes until  11am (central time) Saturday and the winner is announced on Sunday night’s show.
