Rain Slows, but Doesn’t Stop Weekend Festivals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The metro area has been desperate for rainfall for most of the summer. Unfortunately, the rain finally showed up just in time for some of the metro’s biggest festivals of the year.
The driving rain forced organizers of Independence’s Santa-Cali-Gon Days to close early on Friday night. Organizers of the Kansas City Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs say that they are hoping that the same thing doesn’t happen to them when they open on Saturday.
“The show’s gotta go on either way it goes,” said Roger Clements of the KC Ren Fest. “So everybody’s steady, working to get the gates open tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock for our patrons.”
Organizers of the KC Irish Festival at Crown Center aren’t letting the rain dampen their spirits. The downpour caused organizers to shut down some of the smaller stages, and overall numbers are down from years past, but they say that everything else is going forward as scheduled.
“If they’re willing to come out in this rain they’re going to have a good time,” said KC Irish Fest organizer Patti Aylward.
