KANSAS CITY — After two days of rain, some homeowners are cleaning up a soggy mess. People across the metro say the woke up to standing water in their basements after the heavy rain on Friday and Saturday.

Cleaning crews fielded several calls from not so happy homeowners. Brent Alan was one of those homeowners.

“This morning had to wake up and go to the basement to check on something and went down to about an inch of standing water,” Alan said.

Ross Dovel with D & S carpet says this is more common than some may think.

“Whenever we have a lot of rain and we havent had it in a while we typically get this kind of stuff,” Dovel said.

Alan’s sump pump stopped working. That allowed the water to fill the basement and it covered most of the floor.

“It just reminds you not to procrastinate getting a back up sump pump,” he said.

It turns out the Alans were not alone.

“We came down to make sure my basement wasn’t leaking again because we have had some problems in the past and sure enough there was water running over the floor,” said homeowner Randy Ray.

Ray also found himself making a call to the professionals. It’s an issue most people probably didn’t think about months ago but they are now paying the price.
