Police Investigate Assault on Trolley Trail
KANSAS CITY — Kansas City Police are investigating an attempted rape near a Trolley Trail at 85th & Troost. Police were called to a nearby business around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday about a sexual assault.
When officers arrived, the found a woman in her early 20s who had been walking on the trail when a black man jumped out from behind a retaining wall. He then sexually assaulted her.
“There was a young lady pounding on the front glass and she had blood all over face, and I ran out and said what’s going on? And she said, I was just attacked on the trail and a guy tried to rape her,” said Andrew Young who works nearby.
The young woman told Andrew who works at a nearby tattoo shop that she was walking home from class and she took a different way home. That’s when she saw something strange out of the corner of her eye.
“He was I guess following her, and next thing she knew she got grabbed from behind, and the guy just I guess tried to rape her and she was yelling and screaming the entire time,” he said.
Young says the woman told him she managed to get away without being raped but he said her attack was obviously brutal.
“He wrestled her to the ground and ripped her pants off,” he said.
Young says the woman was panicked but calm enough to give police a detailed description of the man she saw on the trail.
“She did a very good job describing the guy,” he said “She pretty much described him to a “T”.
Police picked up a man matching the description of the suspect in the area of 84th & Paseo. He is now being questioned by police.
No charges have been filed in this case.
