CAMERON, Mo. — Police in Cameron are asking the public to be on alert for a possible child predator who may have been trying to lure children to his car Thursday evening.
This happened at Recreation Park, 221 Seminary Street in Cameron between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The mother of a five-year-old girl told police that a boy came up to her daughter and said something like, “There’s a surprise in my Grandpa’s car,” and tried to get her to come to see it.
The boy, who was four to five years old was with a heavy-set, gray-haired older man. The boy referred to the man as “grandpa”.
The mother told police the man appeared to be frustrated that the girl wasn’t responding to the enticement of a “surprise.” She went home and posted what happened on a facebook page. Someone saw it and notified police, who then traced it back to her and asked her to file a report. Police say this is common. People think to post to facebook before they think to call police.
The suspect was last seen driving out of the park northbound on Park Avenue in a newer-style silver Oldsmobile or Buick LeSabre. It had temporary tags displayed in the back window.
The suspect was last seen wearing either an orange or bright red T-shirt and blue jeans. The boy had blonde hair with a skinny build and was wearing a hunter green shirt with a design on the front and either green or camo style shorts.
