Father Accidentally Kills Son While Backing Out of Driveway

KANSAS CITY — A metro family is mourning the loss of a their child Monday night in a tragic accident.

Benjamin Thompson, 2, was killed after being hit by a car backing out of a driveway.

The accident happened on Monday night near 84th & Hillcrest in South Kansas City. Police say the boy’s father accidentally ran over the child in a long, gravel driveway that is poorly lit.

They believe the boy wandered behind the truck while it was moving and he was struck and killed.

Benjamin would have turned three on November 3.
