Chiefs Apologize for Private Tweet Made Public

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs via Twitter are apologizing to their fans for a private tweet that was sent to a unhappy Chiefs fan — or by his standards — a former fan.
It started Monday night when Travis Wright, aka @teedubya, vented his disappointment in the Chiefs. In a profanity-laced tweet, he said the Chiefs have $30 million to spend on players and suggested that the failure to do so is unethical. See Wright’s tweet below.

On Tuesday, Wright claimed the official Twitter account for the Kansas City Chiefs responded with a private tweet — and then blocked him. In essence, the private tweet suggested Wright get his facts straight and to “get a clue”. Wright then made the private tweet public. See below.

Hours later the official Twitter account for the Chiefs responded — this time publicly. The message, an apology to all fans.
I apologize to the fans for my response to a tweet sent to me earlier. No excuse for my actions. I am truly sorry and it won't happen again.—

Wright claimed the Chiefs had $30 million to spend on players under the NFL’s salary cap rules. On Wednesday, a Chiefs spokesperson disputed the $30 million figures as well, claiming that the team only has around $16 million under the salary cap.
According to the Kansas City Star, if that $16 million figure is correct then the team would still have the seventh-most room under the salary cap in the NFL.
As of Tuesday night, Wright claimed he was still blocked from the Chiefs Twitter account.
