Honor Flight Takes KC-Area Vets to D.C.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A group of Kansas City veterans marked the 9/11 anniversary with a special once-in-a-lifetime trip to Washington D.C. to visit the war memorials that have special meaning to each of them.
The Honor Flight left for Washington from KCI on Tuesday morning. The Honor Flight organization says that it’s to honor the service of veterans, but some of the vets told FOX 4 News that they are going to honor some of the people they served with.
“Because I’ve got some guys out there with their name on it, and it’s got my name on it too, and I’ve never seen it,” said World War II veteran Carl Shubert of the WWII Memorial in Washington. “That’s one of the main reasons i want to go.”
The flight was free of charge for veterans.
