Sporting KC Scores Late to Force 1-1 Draw with Houston

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Rallying from behind late, Sporting Kansas City scored a game-tying goal and salvaged a point against Houston Dynamo at Livestrong Sporting Park on Friday night.

With less than a minute remaining in stoppage time, Sporting KC forward C.J. Sapong scored the equalizer on a header assisted by Graham Zusi. It was Sapong’s sixth goal of the season, and Zusi’s 13th assist.

Houston (12-7-10) went up 1-0 in the second half with a strike from Brad Davis in the 58th minute. Sporting outshot Houston 28-6, and set a new franchise record for shot attempts in a single game. Sporting KC (15-7-6) maintains first place in the Eastern Conference with 51 points.

Next up, Sporting KC travels to take on New York Red Bulls (13-7-7) at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night.
