KCMO Mayor Has FUN Tearing Things Up, Jokes About Resigning

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Wednesday, Mayor Sly James got behind the controls of a bulldozer and felt the intensity of its power…. and he liked it a whole lot.

“I’m officially resigning as mayor and getting a truck and one of those things. Man! That’s fun!”

The mayor says there are more than 1,000 abandoned and dangerous buildings in the city. Now, because of a sales tax increase approved by voters last month, many of those are coming down.

“Our neighborhoods have been begging for this for way too long and they can’t move forward until we help by taking care of our part and get rid of dangerous buildings,” Mayor Sly James said.

There are 156 buildings slated to come down by March 2013.
