Officers Hurt During School Fight
READING, Pa. — Two Pennsylvania police officers are recovering after being hurt during a fight at an alternative high school. The entire Reading Police Department was called to the alternative school after learning some faculty and staff were being threatened.
“There were some students making threats to faculty and it became a condition that was unsafe within the facility, which required our assistance,” said Police Capt. Damond Kloc.
When school staff learned students may be coming to school armed with weapons, they decided to search students before letting them in. That’s when the fights started.
“I just heard a lot of stop stop, then I saw cops approaching,” said neighbor Cynthia Agosto.
Another neighbor who lives nearby says it was complete mayhem.
“I just looked out the window and saw police officers chasing a couple of students and arresting them” said neighbor Nadene Aponte.
Eight students were arrested. Most of the students who were arrested have been put in a juvenile detention facility. Police have filed charges including aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
One police officer was cut with a knife and another officer suffered a knee injury. They are expected to be okay.
