Kids Raise Money for Mom’s Memorial
ATLANTA, Ga. – An Atlanta mom was killed an a tragic accident earlier this summer. Now, her two children, Sam and Lucy Downer want to help remember their mom,Tracy Downer. The pair started a lemonade stand to raise money for a memorial.
“It’s really special that this community pulled together the way they did and the kids created this kind of on their own,” said the kids’ dad, Jeff Downer.
In July, 44-year-old Tracy Downer and her co-worker, 35-year-old Michelle Chinnis were out on a sales call for autotrader.com. Witnesses say they saw the driver of a tractor-trailer try to beat a light. Both women died after the trailer hit their car. It was Downer’s third day on the job.
Neighbors came together and provided meals for the Downer family when the accident happened. Months later, they’re still showing their support. The kids say people are making generous donations.
“There were three 20 dollar bills,” said Sam Downer.
Jeff Downer says he’s glad the kids want to honor their mom.
“It will be kind of bittersweet to see that see her name the nice structure its attached to,” said Jeff Downer.
All the proceeds will go toward building a picnic pavilion in Tracy Downer’s name.
