KCK Police Shoot Suspect Following Traffic Stop
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A suspect was critically injured after being shot by Kansas City Kansas Police following a traffic stop on Monday afternoon.
According to police, officers were performing a vehicle stop on an SUV near 10th and Ivandale around 4:45 p.m. on Monday afternoon when, as officers approached the vehicle, the driver shifted into reverse in an apparent attempt to run over the officers.
Police say that an officer fired one shot into the vehicle, hitting the driver. The SUV then rolled forward and hit a retaining wall.
The driver was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries. Neither officer was injured in the incident, which is now being investigated by the Internal Affairs Division, as per standard procedure.
