KU Students On Edge Following Campus Armed Robbery
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Students on the campus of the University of Kansas are on edge after a female student was robbed at gunpoint on Monday night.
According to authorities, the woman said she was swinging on a swing set between Irving Hill Road and Stouffer Place Apartments when she was approached by a man with a gun. He demanded her property, so she gave him her cell phone and iPod.
She described the robber as a tall black man, about 6’2″, approximately 170 pounds. He was wearing a black ski mask and a gray hoodie.
School officials say that this is the first such attack on campus in three years. Students say that the incident has them on their guard.
“I like to be in a group,” said freshman Hannah Boyd. “I don’t like to be by myself because it’s scary. (I’m) just always watching my back.”
Police are advising students to always walk in well-lit, well-traveled areas at all times.
