Children’s Mercy East Opens Doors in Independence
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics is expanding to meet the needs of parents and children in eastern Jackson County.
Children’s Mercy East opens Monday, and will provide urgent care and specialty clinics for children. The new 3-story, 55,000 square foot building is located at 20300 East Valley View Parkway, near I-70 and Little Blue Parkway in Independence, Mo.
In 2011, nearly 23,000 children from eastern Jackson County made more than 75,000 visits to the Children’s Hospital in downtown Kansas City, Mo. That was a 10 percent increase in visits from 2010,according to Jo Stueve, Executive Vice-President and Co-Chief Operating Officer and Children’s Mercy Hospital.
“That is more than 206 visits per day, so we knew there was a need in this area,” Stueve said in a statement. “We’re excited that Children’s Mercy East will make our first-class pediatric care available in each corner of the Kansas City metro area. Now, the children and families living in this part of the community will have access closer to home, which is so important.”
Children’s Mercy East joins Children’s Mercy South in Overland Park, Kan., Children’s Mercy West in Kansas City, Kan., and Children’s Mercy Northland in Kansas City, Mo.
The urgent care clinic at Children’s Mercy East will be open seven days a week from noon until 10 p.m. Specialty clinics will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. They will include services for radiology, cardiology, ear, nose and throat, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hearing and speech, neurology, orthopedics, rehabilitation medicine, and sports medicine,. There is also an outpatient laboratory.
