How to Get the Most Out of Travel Reward Points

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — If you like to travel we’ve got some useful tips for you on how to save money by using your airline points.

Brian Kelly, editor and founder of ThePointsGuy.com, took the longest flight in the world last year for only $2.50 out of his pocket. Kelly was able to take the 17 and a half hour trip from Newark to Singapore in business class using his collection of 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

It used to be tough to keep track of your points but now there’s several websites to help you manage your points.

“There’s a ton of different options out there,” said Kelly. “Personally, I’ve been using for years awardwallet.com. It’s free, it lets you track all your miles and points, and it’ll even email you if your points are going to expire.”

Instead of letting your points expire or being forced to use them before you’re ready, there’s an easier way to save them and keep them active.

“All you have to do is buy a single item through mileage shopping portals. So, almost every airline has these portals you click a link, you go to Target.com, iTunes, you buy a single song,” said Kelly. “As long as you have a single mile deposited into your account, the expiration resets.”

Kelly’s website also keeps you updated on all the best options when it comes down to deciding how to use your airline points. The website basically does all the hard work for you by giving you insight on both good and bad deals.

Routehappy.com is also helpful for travelers to use when choosing which flight is best for them. The website has reviews from actual fliers and allows you to check whether or not your flight has Wi-Fi and other amenities.

Kelly plans to visit Seoul, South Korea next and you can bet he’ll be getting the best deal possible by using his travel reward points.
