  • Adopt from a shelter -- Pets adopted through a shelter are usually come with shots and already spayed or neutered.  That will save you on some of your up-front costs.
  • Do your research -- If you are considering a breed that needs a lot of care, you may want to consider pet insurance.  If you decide to get a policy, check with your employer to see if it's offered through your benefits.
  • Lower vet bills -- Research low cost vet care in your area.  There are not-for-profit organizations that offer everything from shorts to surgeries for your pets at discounted rates.
  • Buy medication online -- Just make sure you are buying from a reputable company.  And always look for discount and free shipping codes!
