82-Year-Old Grandmother Reported Missing After Quick Stop at Convenience Store
BROOKFIELD, Mo. — Drive through the small town of Brookfield, Mo., which is about 115 miles northeast of Kansas City, and you’ll see fliers with pictures of Wanda Jean Boxley.
The 82-year-old grandmother, from nearby Laclede, Mo., hasn’t been seen for nearly three weeks. Her family and friends say their fears and questions keep growing.
“I want people to know that she’s loved, and if they know anything to please, call us or the Linn County Sheriff’s Office,” said Boxley’s granddaughter Jamie Matheney.
Matheney said on the afternoon of November 16, her grandmother made a quick stop at a very familiar place: the County Line Convenience store on West Help in Brookfield. Once inside, the well-known grandmother bought a lottery ticket like she always does, put $10 worth of gas in her car and took off. But relatives and friends haven’t seen one sign of Wanda or her light yellow 1991 Mercury Marquis since.
“Praying we have some kind of closure, whether it be good or bad, something,” says Matheney.
A chief investigator from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office said dozens of deputies spent more than a week scouring the grounds for the missing woman. Linn County deputies and two private pilots also searched by air, but to no avail.
“It just seems like with each passing day that goes by people forget about it, but you can’t forget because she’s still somewhere out there,” said family friend Giney Gardner.
